Extraction removes liquid water
Extraction is the first stage. It removes standing water and as much absorbed water as possible from carpet and surfaces, using pumps and extraction tools.
Drying removes remaining moisture
Even after extraction, materials hold moisture. Structural drying uses air movers to evaporate moisture from surfaces and dehumidifiers to remove it from the air.
Why you need both
Skipping extraction makes drying take much longer. Skipping drying leaves moisture in the structure, which can lead to warping, odours and mould.
How dry is dry?
Moisture readings compare affected materials with similar unaffected materials. Drying continues until readings are within an acceptable range.
